The 21st of April marks World Creativity and Innovation Day. The day is about celebrating the huge impact that creativity and innovation have on all aspects of human development. It is the essence of new ideas and problem solving, from the big issues to the small, as well as being a beautiful and exciting part of our culture.
World Creativity and Innovation Day focuses particularly on the creative industries and the value that they add to the world around us. From music and film to art and fashion, these creative industries not only enrich our lives and allow us to share collective experiences, but they also play a huge part in the economy. These industries create jobs and contribute to a country’s GDP. In fact, the UN General Assembly recognised that ‘innovation is essential for harnessing the economic potential of each nation’, making it a hugely valuable priority for every country.
Creativity and innovation also concerns the formation of new ideas and solutions, which is so valuable to the delivery of sustainability. Creative industries provide ‘opportunities for all, including women and youth’, which can be a fantastic place to work towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 5, Gender Equality. But more broadly, through innovation solutions, businesses can become more sustainable in their practices, all across their supply chain. This also helps to work towards Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth. Creativity is, therefore, essential to transform the way that we work to being more sustainable.
The values that are prized on this day, as part of the promotion of creation and innovation, are that of collaboration, ‘inviting others into the innovation process’ and empathy, ‘making meaningful connections with one another’. True change happens when we can connect with one another and work together to create a meaningful difference.
This is why WWG believes in a holistic approach to sustainability that is partnership driven. When we work together to tackle all areas of sustainability and pool our resources, real change can happen. Our platform offers a creative solution to the problems faced by companies who want to report on their sustainability data, by collating, aggregating and disseminating data into reports filled with trusted and comparable data.
We have also recently begun a partnership with tech giant, Kyndryl. Both Kyndryl and WWG are committed to seeing the sustainable become integrated into every area and the vital role that technology plays in all of this. We are incredibly excited for this partnership to be able to help to deliver solutions for sustainability data reporting.
Through creativity, we can discover new ways to achieve sustainability and bring about a better future for our planet.
